Meet our guest beauty blogger: Rex Adams
Makeup By Rex is the newest weekly feature to hit your screen. We’ve teamed up with model, business owner and makeup guru Rex Adams to bring you step-by-step beauty tutorials. You may recognise her from Missguided campaigns such as LoveThySelf, Hayden Williams and our 2020 new-season collection.
We caught up with our babe Rex to find out about her modelling career, business ventures and passion for all things beauty.
Hey Rex, can you tell us how you first got into modelling?
I was scouted at 17 and I gave modelling a shot for a few months. I wasn’t enjoying it because weight was still a huge defining factor within the industry. At this time, I was a healthy size 8, therefore losing weight was not an option, so I went to university instead.
Once I’d graduated at 22, I fell into modelling again. I was working part-time in a nightclub and was picked up by an agent from Capetown. I was in a better and stronger headspace by then, and the idea of going somewhere hot for the winter was a dream so I went. That’s when it really started to take off, which is a good job because I’d just cut all my hair off into a bowl cut! I hadn’t planned it all, but it happened perfectly.
What’s your proudest career moment so far?
My proudest career moments are probably the editorials that have made it to print (magazines). I don’t rank one better than the other, but it’s nice to know I’ll have a tangible display of my achievements, especially when I’m old, grey and my body is no longer what it used to be. Now I’ve got something to show off later down the line 😉.
Aside from modelling, my proudest moment would be launching a sustainable beachwear brand with my best friend called, Away That Day. It was the most challenging thing I’ve done so far, but it’s definitely been amazing to watch it grow.
How long have you been working with Missguided?
I have been working with Missguided since October, and it’s been the best journey. Not only have I met the most inspiring, talented and hard working people, but they’re a group of individuals that have supported my own personal growth.
Every time I’ve worked with MG has been a dream, but what really stood out to me was the Female Empowerment Day. To be celebrated for your voice and what you represent was truly an honour, and the women I met that day literally changed my life.
When did your interest in makeup first start?
When I was 4 years old I used to visit my Grandma. She had an old ice cream tub filled with gaudy lipsticks and eyeshadows that I’m assuming she didn’t like. Every time I went over, she’d sit me in the pantry and let me play with them. I only had a tiny unusable mirror on an eyeshadow palette so I had to line my lips from memory. I’d come out and my Gram would review it (I was told I’d do pretty well) she’d then wash it off really quick before my mum came to get me!
What’s your favourite look you have done?
My vampy look. My favourite lip shade will always be a dark berry tone. I love the freckles too, it softens the look.
What can the BabeZine reader expect from your upcoming tutorials?
All the secrets, tips and tricks I’ve learnt throughout my career and growing up. From how to get the perfect lip line, to makeup looks for when you’re stuck for time. I’ll have everything covered.
