Charleigh's story

This March, we are proud to announce a long-term partnership with The Prince’s Trust, who, over 44 years, has become expert in supporting those in particularly challenging situations.

The Prince’s Trust has offered endless support and opportunities to young people facing hardship, whether that be mental health problems, growing up in the care system, victims of sexual abuse, involvement with in the criminal justice system and long-term unemployment.

They work to offer new opportunities and support to those who need it most. We decided to take a look at a few of their (many) success stories, to celebrate the important work they are doing for young people across the UK.

Charleigh’s Story

Charleigh is a student from Middlesbrough, who suffered with severe anxiety. She struggled to complete every day tasks and started to shut herself out from the world.

Her mum was concerned about her mental health and contacted the GP who suggested The Prince’s Trust support programme.

“I was so nervous at the thought of meeting and having to speak to new people that I didn’t want to go. I don’t know what happened, but everyone was encouraging me so I just went for it.  ”Straight away, I was surprised at how comfortable I felt being there. Everyone was so nice.”

The course is designed to help young people communicate better, form relationships and take control of their own lives. It has a focus on building confidence and managing anxiety. This can range from ordering food from a restaurant, to moving out of the family home (like Charleigh did).

Following support from The Prince’s Trust, Charleigh was able to overcome her anxiety and start to build a life for herself. She is now in her second year at Leeds Becket University, studying Law & Criminology.
