We caught up singer-songwriter and mega babe Alexi Blue to chat a day in the life, her new single and what’s on the agenda for the rest of the year…
What does a day in the life of you look like?
No day is the same… but I like that because it keeps life interesting. It does always revolve around my music though… Every day I’m either writing songs, in the studio, practicing vocals, or getting ready for live shows. I also always try to get my kick-box workout in early! Best way to wake me up for sure.
Your new single July (All Because Your Love), is out now- what’s the inspo behind the track?
I’m so happy that my new single “July (ABYL) is finally out. I wrote this song to be your favourite summer anthem, and to see my fans respond with love is all I could have hoped for. I wrote this song about a summertime love story that all took place in the month of July… midnight on the 4th of July, city rooftops, vintage record stores… the lyrics explain the story 😉
What’s the best gig you’ve ever played?
I’ve played a lot of live gigs… from open mics in LA with like 10 people, to festivals with over 10,000. To date though, I’d say my favourite show was Show of the Summer last August. It was my first stadium show and I got to open for Shawn Mendes. Definitely impossible to forget the feeling right before getting on stage. Such a rush.
Who did you listen to growing up?
Everything. My music taste is so diverse. Growing up, my dad listened to a lot of classic hip hop/r&b music, and my mom loved 80`s music, so I got the best of both worlds. I seriously listened and still do listen to everything. Good music is good music.
What’s the last album you listened to all the way through?
I just listened to Bruno Mars` last album again for like the 5th time. SO much funk! I love his music, style, and vibe… lots of respect for how he tried something fresh in this generation of music. He’s a trendsetter.
What’s been your career highlight/proudest moment?
I’m only at the beginning, but I feel blessed to be able to say I’ve had quite a few career highlights/proud moments. I’m an independent artist so right now, everything I do is baby steps toward the end goal of getting signed, touring, etc. I’d say one of my proudest moments is over 600,000 combined Spotify streams on my last EP “TRI Me” completely independent. It was all because of word of mouth and my fans spreading the word. I’m really proud of that for sure. Also, that I’ve written every original song I’ve released and the response toward each song has been so strong. People really connect to my lyrics, and that’s what it’s all about.
What advice do you have for aspiring artists trying to break into the industry?
My advice for any aspiring artists trying to get into the music industry would be to stay patient. It takes time, so you have to love every minute of every high, and every low. It’s a journey that 100% takes patience and grinding hard. I’d also say write your own music, and play live as much as you can… any bar, club, songwriter showcase, open mic… just get out there and start performing your own music live. Be consistent as far as posting on social media, and overall enjoy the process. It’s a ride that you’re blessed to be on so enjoy it 🙂
Where can we see you perform next?
I have a few shows coming up in 2017. I’ll be performing at Lantern Fest in Poconos PA in Sept, as well as a couple more shows in Texas later this year. You can stay up to date on all my live shows and get more details on my social media and website. Playing live is my favourite.
What’s on the agenda for the rest of 2017?
The video to ‘July’ is now on my YouTube channel. I’ll of course be in the studio and writing more songs as always.. I’m always creating new music. The cool thing about this career is things are always changing… opportunities present themselves everyday so I’m excited for the future.
