We caught up with Australian pop trio Beatz to talk new music, musical inspo and dream collaborations…
What does a day in the life of BEATZ look like?
A typical day in the life of BEATZ would consist of a couple hours rehearsal, which would usually turn into us hanging out! We would probably head to Newtown and have something to eat at one of our favourite spots “The Italian Bowl”.
Describe your sound in 5 words…
Pop, urban, fierce, powerful, energetic.
When did you first realise you wanted to make music?
We formed back in late 2013, and from the moment we first got together as a group, we knew what kind of music we wanted to create. It was pretty clear that we all wanted to continue this as a profession.
Your new single ‘Ain’t Your Girl’ was released this month. What’s the inspiration behind it?
Girl Power inspired Ain’t Your Girl! It’s all about standing up for yourself, being strong and independent. This is exactly why we thought it would only be fitting to cast mini versions of ourselves to try and help lead the younger generation. We have a young, supportive fan base, and we wanted them to know that no matter how tough things become in life, it’s essential to stay strong, kick ass and fight for what you believe in.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever played?
X-Factor would definitely have to be the best gig we have ever played! We also recently performed at an incredible show on Australia Day at Parramatta Park, which had over 65,000 people turn up. The atmosphere was amazing!
If you could collaborate with anyone who would it be and why?
There are quite a few people we would like to collaborate with! At the moment we would probably say Bruno Mars! His music is so addictive and he definitely knows how to break it down with some dance moves!
Who did you listen to growing up?
We listened to a lot of Michael Jackson, Spice Girls and Destiny’s child!
Who’s your biggest musical inspiration?
As a group, we definitely love Little Mix! We also love Bruno Mars, Beyonce, Ariana Grande, Jessie J and Nicki Minaj!
What’s your guilty pleasure track?
Yoooo I’ll tell you what I want, what I really really want! We absolutely love this track!
What’s the last album you listened to all the way through?
What’s been your career highlight/proudest moment?
Without question, making it all the way to the TOP 5 on X Factor! Another major achievement has been releasing our own single ‘Ain’t Your Girl’ and filming the amazing video clip for it!
Who’s the coolest person you’ve worked with so far?
Mel B would definitely be the coolest person!
Who are you listening to at the moment?
We are LOVING Bruno Mars!
Who would be in your ultimate girl gang?
The Spice Girls!
Who are you currently stalking on Instagram?
What advice do you have for aspiring artists trying to break into the industry?
Never give up! There is a place in this world for you, to do what you love and if you have a dream, make sure you go for it! It might not be easy but enjoy the journey you take to get there!
You can only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what is it?
“Dangerous Woman” by Ariana Grande
What’s on the agenda for the rest of the year?
Lots and lots of hard work and definitely some more original music!
