Cédric Steinmyller, AKA Klingande, has propelled himself into the tropical house music scene. We caught up with him to chat career highlights, dream festival line-ups and what’s on the agenda for the rest of 2017…
How would you describe your sound?
I’m trying to have a very accessible sound, melodic, pop electro crossover with acoustic instruments in all my tracks.
What does a day in the life of Klingande look like?
If I’m home it will be easy routine, waking up, doing my sport, and then go downstairs in my studio, work my music, and I’m doing this pretty much all day. On tour, well it’s different but you know that!
When did you first realise you wanted to make music?
I think when I was 10 or something, I really connected with music when I was a teenager after that, and it grew in me year after year.
Who inspires you?
A lot of different artists and music genre, I was inspired by the music and success of Avicii or Swedish House Mafia back in the days, then I got inspired from Klangkarussell, Bakermat.. And now I have a lot of respect for Robin Schulz, Kygo, but also Feder, LeMarquis or Clean Bandit, and the list is long!
What did you listen to growing up?
I was listening progressive house, music from the early ages of Eric Prydz, Axwell, but also more pop rock music like U2, Coldplay, Oasis. I think that’s what created this envy to cross pop and electronic music.
What’s your guilty pleasure track?
Ahah I’ll never share this one!
What’s the best gig you’ve ever played?
After a few years on the road this is always a very difficult question. I think because it was a real highlight I’ll say my band show in NYC at Playstation theater. Playing with all these people on stage, live, in a great venue on Time Square, what else?
What are you listening to right now?
It’s Strange – LeMarquis Remix
What’s been your career highlight/proudest moment?
There is so much highlight, great shows, great achievements.. It’s difficult to choose. I’m actually really proud everyday of what we did and what we are doing.
What would your dream festival line-up be?
Flume, Clean Bandit, Calvin Harris, Drake, but also Louis The Child, LeMarquis, Autograf, Michael Calfan… There is so much talent, from the world famous ones, to some who deserve more exposure!
What advice do you have for aspiring artists trying to break into the industry?
Never give up, always work your skills and never forget that the public bring you where you are.
You can only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what is it?
Flume – Skin
Where can we next see you play?
I’ll be mostly in Europe this summer, in France, Germany, Belgium, UK… This Saturday I’ll be in Lyon, next week in Korea for Ultra Festival and going on.
What’s on the agenda for the rest of 2017?
I have my summer tour until end of August, my next single will be released end of August or beginning of September. I’ll also go back in Australia and Asia in September. Then I’ll reduce the tour schedule at the end of the year, like I do every year now to focus on music and promo. That’s a really exciting year for me!
