Brit School Alumni is about to make her mark in the music scene – we caught up with singer songwriter Rudie Edwards to chat musical inspo, guilty pleasures and what’s around the corner in 2017…
What does a day in the life of Rudie Edwards look like?
Right now I’m finishing up my EP. So I’m in the studio a lot.
How would you describe your aesthetic and how does it inspire your music?
I would describe my aesthetic as vintage-casual. I love the glam of the 70’s but also the jeans and t-shirt looks of the 80’s. Music has played a part in my sense of style and vice versa for as long as I can remember.
Who’s the coolest person you’ve met so far?
What’s the best gig you have ever played?
I was in a band when I was at Brit School and we played Glastonbury; that was pretty great.
Who would you like to collaborate with and why?
Bon Iver, I love his lyrics and his voice
Why do you think the relationship between fashion and music is so strong?
I think it’s because they’re both forms of expressing yourself.
What’s your favourite music video?
Prince – Sexy M.F.
Who did you listen to growing up?
Talking Heads, The Cure, Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, Joy Division, the list goes on

High waisted jeans
What items do you make sure you pack on your travels?
I can’t go anywhere without my Marshall Headphones and my high waisted jeans and my leather coat.
Who is your style icon and why?
I take inspiration from a lot of different people, I think it’s important to have a diverse style. I like to try new things
Where do you look for fashion inspiration?
Everywhere, you can find inspiration just from walking around London

What’s your favourite fashion trend this season and why?
I’m not really up to date with trends – I just make it up as I go along.
If you could steal anyone’s wardrobe who’s would it be?
You can only wear one outfit for the rest of the year, what is it?
My black velvet jumpsuit
What’s your spirit animal?
I think I’m a boxer dog – I’m a family person

I’ve been all five at least once
What do you love about Missguided?
I love the history of Misguided; a family coming over from India to Britain, working in the rag trade and over time, with a lot of hard work, building an international empire. I find that extremely inspiring.
