We caught up with singer-songwriter, Cat Burns to celebrate the release of her brand new single Fool in Love, which came out TODAY. The progressive pop singer was born and raised in Streatham, Greater London, and attended the iconic Brit School from the age of 14.
At 19-years-old, she uses her real life experiences to create killer tunes that are SO relatable. Her lyrics mention situations we encounter every day, like drunken ‘you up?’ texts, insufferable f*ckboys and going ‘out out’ with the girls.
Cat chatted to us about her musical influences, career highlights and her go-to Nandos order (obviously).
When did you first realise that you wanted to pursue music full time?
I think I realised as soon as I joined the Brit School! I was 14 and after a few lessons and assemblies my dream didn’t seem that far out of reach anymore.
What does a night out for Cat look like?
I usually go out in a group of maximum 3 people, always with my closest mates at different times, and it’s usually a low-key night out to a cool club, those fancy London clubs scare me.
As a Nandos super fan, we wanna know your go-to order?
5 wings, medium chips & a bottomless drink.
2019 saw the release of your EP Naïve and single I Don’t Blame You. What does 2020 hold?
More singles definitely.
Do you have a writing process for your songs?
They usually come at unexpected moments, I could be literally anywhere.
What’s your proudest career moment so far?
It was actually back in 2017 when I put on my own headline gig, all my friends and family showed up and were singing all the words. I really felt the love that night. It will always be special for me .
Who’s your dream musical collaboration?
I would have to say Tori Kelly. Been a fan of her ever since I was young, her lyrics always made me feel something!
What do you wear to feel confident on stage?
I love a baggy bottom half and something more fitted on top, I feel like that shows me off the best without me feeling like I’ve got no clothes on.
Who did you listen to growing up?
I grew up listening to gospel, from Kirk Franklin to Jonathan McReynolds. I also grew up listening to Tori Kelly, Ed Sheeran & Stevie Wonder.
What’s your boss babe mantra?
Don’t chase someone who’s clearly trying to run away from you.
