Chelcee Grimes Q+A

How have you been finding lockdown?

I’ve actually loved it, waaaay more than I should, I moved back to Liverpool & bought my first home so I’ve been keeping busy with all of that as well as joining a new football team (Tranmere Rovers) & signing a new record deal with ULTRA records in a new project with my 2 friends “VIZE VERZA”

How have you found the transition of working as a solo artist to working with Vize Verza?

It’s been honestly so so enjoyable. Usually everything from the first lyric to the guitar sound & the drums we use is always my decision and if it doesn’t do well it’s really all down to you. Whereas now its such a collaboration, we all thrive in different aspects of making a record, it’s the perfect combo.

You are obviously VERY busy with your football career & music, any top tips on finding a balance between work and social life?

Be able to function on not much sleep! Haha, honestly sometimes it’s all a bit mad and I feel like it’s not possible to be doing everything I set out for that week, but if there’s a will, there’s a way! I just do what I want and what makes me happy and the football side of things lets me still express myself in a different way. I really have the best of both worlds. I’m enjoying every second!

What song are you proudest of and why?

That’s such a hard questions because my first song that put me on the “map” as a songwriter was a Kylie Minogue song and that will forever hold a special place in my heart. It allowed me to become and achieve what I have done so far… but I also love the song I wrote with Dua lipa on her new album “Love Again”. But ask me next week and my answer might change.

How do you spend a day off?

I play ALOT of PlayStation games!! (mainly FIFA). I’ve recently been taking driving lessons too, but honestly just water my plants, play PlayStation, take a shower, put on fresh pyjamas and eat a lot. Isn’t that what a day off is all about?

What were your favourite teenage albums?

I was obsessed with lady Gaga – The FAME! That album made me want to write music. Beyoncé, Pussycat Dolls and April Lavigne were also some of my favourites. Katy Perry – Teenage dream turned 10 YEARS OLD a few weeks ago and I literally could have cried. It felt like yesterday when i was commuting down to London with that album on full blast DREAMING of writing songs!

What’s your most surreal career moment?

I performed for the Liverpool FC players at the after-party of the Champions League final in Madrid and was just pinching myself. Performing for MY TEAM whilst they brought in the cup. It was honestly a moment I still think isn’t real and I made it all up. But I have a picture with Steven Gerrard from it. So it must be real!
