Missguided Discovered: Lois Rae
Find out about her new tune, musical faves and dream collabs
We caught up with singer and star on the rise Lois Rae, following the release of her new single Mind Feat. Wynts.
If you don’t already know, get to know. Originally hailing from Stoke (just outside Manchester), Lois has been crafting her art from a young age. The R&B artist has been inspired by the big names of the 90s, but has firmly developed an unmistakable sound of her own.
We caught up with the 24-year-old singer and songwriter to find out more about her journey into music, her new tunes and life in lockdown.
Q+A with LOIS Rae
How have you been keeping yourself busy in this most recent lockdown?
Luckily, I have been able to carry on making music from home so that has kept me very busy. I’ve also been enjoying painting and drawing to help me relax and be mindful.
How did you find working with Wynts on your new track Mind?
Working with Wynts was really fun! He is a super talented rapper and lyricist and is also very chilled out and easy to work with as a person. He definitely brought a fresh flavour and energy to the track. Look out for more music from him very soon!
What has been the most surreal moment since the release of your first single in 2020?
Probably when my track THAT’S ME got played for the first time on national radio. I’ve been blessed enough to have support from both KISS and 1xtra so far, and it’s definitely both surreal and humbling to receive that kind of support.

What song are you most excited to perform in front of a live audience?
My debut track BADDIE just because it’s so sassy and fun. It carries a direct and relatable message about a being more than the image you see of someone on Instagram. It’s a tongue in cheek way of responding to people who judge a book by it’s cover!
What do you wear to feel most confident on stage?
I think something that you feel comfortable in is most important so you can be free to express yourself. Lately I’ve been loving super baggy jeans or cargo pants with a tight fitted body suit or corset to contrast. Of course I can’t forget to add some chunky gold jewellery, glasses and box fresh white trainers or sock boots.
What has been your favourite ever night out?
I had an amazing time seeing Billy Ocean a few years ago. I was actually completely taken back by his stage presence and musicality. Plus he has loads of absolute tunes! Beyoncé at Wembley obviously has to be up there too.
Who is your dream collaboration?
I would love to collab with Miguel or Saint JHN one day. I love their vibes and I think stylistically they are both really unique artists too.
At what point did you realise that music could be more than a hobby?
I have never really thought of it as a hobby to be honest it was more like a way of life for me since I first started playing classical piano at age 5. Nothing else ever really peaked my interest as much as music and being creative, so I guess it was just inevitable that was going to be the career path for me.

What were your favourite teenage albums?
As a teen I definitely had Rihanna’s ‘Talk that Talk’ on repeat. I was also obsessed with Ne-Yo ‘Year of the Gentleman’. ‘Miss Independent’ was my jam!
What’s on the agenda for 2021?
What’s on the agenda for 2021? In 2021 I’m really looking forward to sharing more music. I have more releases coming up and I’m also looking forward to connecting more with the people who are listening through live shows and rather than just on social media!
