You have probably already heard Kah-Lo’s fire vocals on tunes such as Ginger and the Grammy-nominated Rinse and Repeat. She rose to fame collaborating with British DJ Riton and now she is making serious waves with her solo releases.
The singer and song writer was born in Nigeria and relocated to New York at the age of 16. She started her career performing in coffee shops across NY, before hooking up with Riton on Twitter.

How did you find the change in lifestyle from Nigeria to New York?
It was kind of weird because in my head, New York was just one big vibrant city, and my first school was upstate New York in the middle of nowhere. That was the big shock for me.
How did you find the balance between working and pursuing your music career?
There was really no balance to be honest. My boss found out that all my “dental appointments” were really me going to open mic nights in Manhattan. I got fired.
You connected with Riton on Twitter, how did this interaction change things for you?
He followed me and I checked his stuff out on SoundCloud. I thought it was fire, so I hit him up, and about two years later we finally hit the studio. Rinse and Repeat was the first track we made for him to play in his sets. Neither of us had a clue it was going to skyrocket like that.
What do you like to do in your downtime?
Watch TV or hang out with my friends. I don’t get to see them often, but I also really value downtime to myself.
What single night out has been the most memorable for you?
It was the night that inspired the song Ginger. I spent the whole time club-hopping with my friends. It’s good to know I have everything that happened on record in a song! The full version of events is on the Ginger Alt Version on the album
What’s your career highlight so far?
The Grammy nomination is up there for sure!
Who’s your dream person to collab with?
MIA. Slick Rick. Max Martin. Pharrell.
What music did you listen to growing up?
Mainly pop music or whatever was top 40 at the time! It definitely inspired me. Nowadays I still listen to that as well as R&B, hip hop and pop from the 70s ’til the late 90s.
What’s on the agenda for 2020?
To really make my mark as a solo artist!
