Missguided Discovered: Lyne

For this week’s Missguided Discovered, we caught up with London-based Belgian Congolese songstress LYNE, following the release her debut EP ‘Bipo Feels’.

The 23-year-old artist has a striking and immersive voice, frequently using her platform to speak about mental health issues and topics that resonate with her closely.

She has already made huge waves with her successful singles over the last two years, gaining support from Capital Xtra, TrenReprezent Radio, MNM Belgium, Tarmac, and Pulse88 Radio.

We chatted to Lyne to find out about life in lockdown, her EP release and more. Read the full Q+A below.

Lyne Bipo feels

Hey Lyne, thanks for chatting to us, how are you?

Hiya!! Thank you for having me, I’m doing well, working from home since lockdown started. Great time to focus on my projects really

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

I’m originally from Belgium with a dad from Congo and a mum from Portugal. I moved to the UK at the age of 17 to study music and since then, I haven’t left! Making music with my brother and producer DEWI who is also in London. I recently released my new EP ‘Bipofeels’ with a afro soul/rnb sound!

How has the reception been to ‘Bipo Feels’ been?

The reception of the EP was very good. I’m grateful. The sound I released was unexpected for a lot, and it got me a lot of interesting instagram collaborations during lockdown and exposure in media

You explore mental health through your music, is this something that’s important to you?

Music is my way of expressing my feelings, both good and bad. I tend to keep a lot inside but releasing it is so appeasing. Plus a good melody definitely brings joy within me that’s for sure

Which of your songs means the most to you and why?

‘All Mine’  is so meaningful to me. I love them all but this one is probably my favourite to perform as well. It’s a special song for a special person.

How has lockdown affected your creativity?

It has slowed me down in some areas, I like being creative and producing music videos, photoshoots etc but such things were not allowed. However it gave me more time to write 🙂

What were your favourite album as a teenager?

I remember receiving ‘A Girl Like Me’ by Rihanna and I just played it on repeat!

What do you like to do when you aren’t creating music?

If I’m not creating music, I’m probably doing something else creative, like mini visuals which I love spending time on. I am also the co-founder of an influencer marketing agency Influenshow, which keeps me busy quite a lot.

What do you wear to feel most confident when performing?

I like knowing that I look very good before stepping on stage, but most importantly, I want to be comfy since I like moving on stage! recently I have been doing joggers and a nice cute top or a cool jumpsuit.

What’s your proudest career moment so far?

My new EP ‘Bipo Feels’ is a project I am very happy with. The journey and the final release made me proud of myself. But I would say a moment that got me very excited and proud at the time was my supporting-act performance at The Boxing event with NSG and DBlock Europe as main acts.
