This London based songstress is only 17 years old and is making big moves in the music industry. She has recently dropped her covers of ‘Driving Home For Christmas’ and ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’. It’s safe to say these songs have got us straight into the Christmas feels. Her new EP is releasing on the 4th December, so make sure to give it a listen. Our girl Sapphire is one to watch.
Congrats on your new songs ‘Driving Home For Christmas’ and ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’. Are you as obsessed with Christmas as we are?
Aw thank you! Oh my, definitely, I love Christmas. I’ve honestly been listening to Christmas music since July… It’s my favourite time of year, for sure.
Your new EP is releasing on the 4th December, congrats! How have you found making this EP?
It’s been an incredible experience. We’ve been working on it since the summer, so knowing that it’s finally being released for the world to hear is so exciting, yet so nerve-racking at the same time. Getting to reimagine these classic tracks with Steve Anderson [the producer] was incredible, he really gave the songs that magic Christmas fairy dust. Been very lucky to have worked on the project with such amazing people as well, so grateful. Just really hope everyone enjoys the songs!
I’ve been singing ever since I was 3 years old and started uploading videos onto YouTube when I was 7. I have been really lucky to have had a few viral videos that gave me opportunities to perform all over the world, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the incredible love and support. Honestly, the best advice I can give is to never ever give up. It’s also always so important to keep learning and to remember that ‘perfection’ doesn’t exist. Just strive to be the best person you can be! In the words of Audrey Hepburn, “nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m possible’”.
What’s your fave moment of your career?
Ahh that’s such a hard question! My favourite moment so far has definitely got to be performing on CBBC’s Saturday Mash-Up. It was a dream come true, and I got to meet Hacker the Dog, haha!
I’m really lucky to be able to say that I love my work, so it’s been quite easy for me to be able to balance the two. It’s really important to take breaks though, especially when writing music or singing, as over-singing will stress the vocal cords, and I always end up getting writer’s block if I write for any more than 12 hours straight haha (I’ve just realised that 12 consecutive hours is a really long time, oh my).
If you could collab with anyone, who would that be and why?
There are so many artists that I’d love to collaborate with so this is such a hard question. Probably Lauv, or NOTD. They just seem like fun people to work with, and their songs always have me dancing around my room. Ooo, I’d also love to write a song with Sasha Sloan – her lyrics are just incredible.
